Eventide of the Bear by Cherise Sinclair
Series: The Wild Hunt Legacy #3
She risked her life to save a human child. Pain was her reward.
All her life, Emma longed for someone to love. Instead, disaster sees the brand-new bard banished from her people for long lonely years. Injured saving a child, the werebear has to steal food from humans, breaking shifter Law. The territory’s Cosantir and his lethal grizzly warrior catch her in the act. To her surprise, she’s healed and welcomed. Obviously, they don’t know her past. But oh, she can’t resist being around other shifters—especially the captivatingly powerful warrior. Maybe she can stay…just a little while.
As a grizzly warrior, Ben is ordered to house the pretty werebear until she heals. His littermate abandoned him, his home is empty, and he’s been alone for a long time. Intelligent and sweet and lushly curved, Emma is a delight…even if she is oddly reticent about her past. Although having sworn off females, he’s sorely tempted by this one. Damned if he doesn’t want to keep her, secrets or not.
Females were trouble. Years past, one split Ryder from his littermate. Now the panther shifter is returning to Ben, bringing his cub with him, a four-year-old he stole from the abusive female. To Ryder’s annoyance, his brother is sheltering a wounded bear. A female. Even worse, she’s beautiful and gentle and loving—damned if he’s going to fall for that act again. But when the dark of the moon arrives and death reigns supreme, he’ll discover that not all females are alike.
In a world filled with hellhounds and pixies, can three lonely shifters and one silent cub create a new family together?
Oh my goodness where to begin? This was my first foray into the world of The Wild Hunt Legacy and I can promise you that it is not my last. I am reading the previous two books in this series as we speak. I will say right off the bat that this book is a bit different than your standard shifter romance. I love that some Gaelic is used throughout, it really added an other worldliness (just go with it) to it. Right off the back I cried for Emma! She suffers so much and I was her biggest champion throughout the book. Actually all four of the main characters (Emma, Ben, Ryder, and Minette) have suffered. For Emma it was first at the hands of her mother and then the hands of her town. Forced to live on her own and endure three years of solitude. After being injured her life begins to take a turn.
For Ben it was the knowledge that his littermate left him for a woman and while he has a nice large home it is empty. The loneliness is something that he has learned to live with although it is not something he would have chosen for himself. Ryder is Ben’s littermate and after finding out just how devious women can be, he has sworn them off with the exception of Minette, the daughter he just found out about and who suffered greatly at the hands of her mother. Ryder decides it’s time to go home to Ben and ask his brother for forgiveness. It is a huge step and one that will change the course of everyone’s lives.
I loved this book! There just isn’t anything bad I can say about it. The story grabbed me right from page one and left me feeling thrilled at the end. Minette was such a wonderful child and when she finally spoke her first words I burst into tears. Ben and Ryder were both such wonderful characters. Ben’s softness was the perfect compliment to Ryder’s roughness. There were times I wanted to slap Ryder though, especially when he hurt Emma with his thoughts on women. I can’t wait for the next one!
