Queen of His Heart by Lena Hart
Series: Queen Quartette #3
Genres: Contemporary Romance
Judith Bell is comfortable with her quiet, predictable life. After a failed relationship left her emotionally—and physically—scarred, she tries her hardest to ignore Carlos Moreno’s advances. But the sexy, dark-eyed security chief is proving very hard to ignore. When fear and blackmail drives her to compromise her new position at Royal Courts, Judith’s serene life is once again disrupted.
Carlos is captivated by his boss’ assistant. Beyond her beauty is a sweet, gentle woman needing desperately to be loved. But when an internal investigation points to her, he realizes Judith may not be the innocent she appears. Left wondering if he’s been duped by a pretty face and bewitching smile, Carlos finds himself torn between his obligations to Royal Courts or protecting the woman who’s already stolen his heart.
On the run from her past and forced into hiding, Judith is faced with two choices—either let fear define her future or allow love to heal her wounded heart.
This is not only my first book by Lena Hart but also my first in this series. Even though this is the third book in the series you can read it on its on. Carlos Moreno has been trying to get with Judith ever since he began his job as Chief of Security at Royal Courts. I really enjoyed the humor in Carlos’ chase and Judith was so determined to not get caught, so to speak. She did have a very good reason that involves her past but eventually does take a chance. Of course it wouldn’t be any good without some suspense and Judith gets blackmailed into doing something she didn’t want to.
Carlos was a breath of fresh air. He was open about his feelings and really tried to show Judith just how much he wanted her. That doesn’t mean he was weak or a push over because he wasn’t. He just wasn’t as hard nose as his character could have been . I really enjoyed that because it was a bit different than the obvious alpha man (whom I still love!)
Even though this has suspense it was written with a light air about it. It wasn’t this grab the edge of your seat and hold on action that I associate with romantic suspense and that is one thing that really made it stand out for me. The characters are all well written and the main characters are so endearing that you find yourself rooting for them. While the secondary characters all add to the story and to the series. I will certainly be going back and reading the first two books in this series and then follow it as it continues.
