The Asset by Anna Del MarMy Rating:

The Asset by Anna Del Mar
Series: Wounded Warrior #1
Genres: Military/Police Romance

Anna del Mar’s explosive, sexy debut novel in the Wounded Warrior series, perfect for fans of Lisa Marie Rice and Lora Leigh—the story of a woman desperate to escape her dangerous past and the navy SEAL who would lay down his life to save her.

Ash Hunter knows what it is to run. A SEAL gravely injured in Afghanistan, he’s gone AWOL from the military hospital. Physically and mentally scarred, he returns home to his grandmother’s isolated cottage—and finds a beautiful, haunted stranger inside.

Like recognizes like.

Lia Stewart’s in hiding from the cartel she barely escaped alive, holed up in this small Rocky Mountain town. Surviving, but only just. Helping the wounded warrior on her doorstep is the right thing to do…it’s loving him that might get them both killed.

Soon, Ash realizes he’s not the only one tormented by the past. Pushing the limits of his broken body, testing the boundaries of her shattered soul, he’ll protect Lia until his last breath.

My Review

This was an emotional roller coaster ride for me like no other! I should warn you that this is anything but the nice and sweet romance you may be thinking. It is dark at times and filled with suspense. Lia is on the run and hiding from a man who is not only very dangerous and powerful but also who wants only to hurt her among other things. While Ash is a wounded Navy SEAL who is also running from his own demons. Both suffer PTSD and while they both can help heal one another danger is always right around the corner.

The characters were all very well developed and the story gripped from beginning to end. I really felt for Lia and I loved when she simply decided NO MORE! Ash was also wonderful and I felt for him as well. They have both gone through things that would have crushed lesser people yet they are both still fighting for some sort of normal. While giving into the darkness and giving up would have been easy they both struggle and together find a way to heal. While this is the first book in the series I am super excited about reading each book that follows. If they are all as suspenseful and exciting as this one then I will be one happy gal!

The SEAL I Love

Lia Stuart Introduces Ash Hunter

I’ve been asked to tell you about Ash Hunter, my co-protagonist in The Asset, the first novel of Anna del Mar’s Wounded Warrior series. It’s hard, you know? After all, The Asset is about a frightening time in my life, when I was alone and running away from my terrifying past. The beast who stalked me was right on my heels. I don’t mean to be melodramatic, but I was prepared to die if he caught up with me.

Ash showed up at my door unexpectedly. I thought he was a hired assassin. I confronted him with my loaded shotgun. I might have shot him on the spot, but when I saw this huge, handsome German shepherd by his side, I hesitated. I didn’t have a lot of faith in the human race, but animals? I’ve always loved animals. Could a man who owned such a glorious dog really be a hired assassin?

I forced myself to take a good look at the stranger standing on my porch. He was pale, sick and in pain. He was on crutches, for God’s sake. He’d come to rent my spare room and turned out to be the grandson of the woman who’d helped me hide in my isolated Rocky Mountain cottage. I realized I had to help Ash, even if taking care of him increased my risk of being found. That’s how Ash crashed into my life.

My plan was to help Ash heal and then send him on his way. Staying with me, his life was as much at risk as mine was. But Ash is a different breed. He had his own plans.

I think he suspected I was in trouble from day one. Ash was a Navy SEAL, trained to assess, adapt and adjust. He didn’t want to talk about how he’d gotten hurt in Afghanistan and that was fine with me. I didn’t like to talk about my past either. In different ways, we were both survivors.

I tried not to love Ash. I tried so hard. Everyone who I’ve ever loved has been taken away from me. I didn’t want the same thing to happen to Ash. But Ash…It was impossible not to fall for him. As he got better, I noticed his looks. He’d been in the hospital for a while and yet he was still fit and sexy in ways that were impossible to ignore.

But Ash was more than just good looking. He was smart, skilled and detail oriented. Nothing escaped his attention. The SEAL in him knew that a storm was coming our way. So he prepared for it, just like a SEAL readies for battle. When the time came, he was right there, beside me as we faced the evil in my past together.

I won’t spoil the novel for you, but I’ll tell you this: Ash broke through the wall of my fears. He taught me courage, loyalty and resilience. He taught me lust and passion. He helped discover my sexual self. Most importantly, he taught me that love can heal not just the body but also the soul.

I never thought I could find the strength to trust, let alone love anyone. But that’s the beauty of healing. It allowed me to reach beyond my limits. I fell in love with Ash, the man who loved me as I was, the marine who watched my six, the SEAL who made my freedom his mission.

Can you blame me?
