The Cowboy Imports a Bride {Cowboys of Chance Creek 3}My Rating:

The Cowboy Imports a Bride by Cora Seton
Series: The Cowboys of Chance Creek #3
Genres: Cowboys/Western Romance

Rob Matheson’s a fighter. Flattening enemies with his fists or with his legendary practical jokes, he’s a tough enemy, and a troublesome friend. But Rob doesn’t know how much longer he can keep up the act. As his buddies get married one by one, he’s left with his lonely life – and the sinking feeling he lost more than his dreams when he traded them for a thick skin. Now Rob’s father has issued a challenge – he’ll give 200 acres of prime Montana ranchland to the first of his four sons to wed. No conditions, no meddling. Could this be a chance to become the man he really wants to be?

Morgan Tate’s worked for years to climb the ladder to a top job at Cassidy Wineries, but Duncan Cassidy, the boss’ son, always stands in her way. Now he’s issued an ultimatum; marry him or he’ll make sure she never works in the wine industry again. Morgan wants marriage – and a family – but not with Duncan. A certain cowboy in Chance Creek, Montana, has stolen her heart.

When Rob offers Morgan a proposition – marry him and split the land – they both find themselves with an ethical dilemma. They don’t know each other well enough to wed, but they can’t lie about their intentions before God and man, either.

Now they’ve got sixty days to fall in love, and a passel of family and friends determined to keep them apart. The victims of Rob’s previous jokes are lining up to get their revenge, and Morgan’s half-sister, Claire, is stirring up their mother’s past.

Will it take the biggest practical joke of all to convince the world – and themselves – that they’re truly meant to be man and wife?

My Thoughts

Rob Matheson wasn’t my favorite character until this book. Before he just seemed like he didn’t take life seriously in any way. I really love that we got to see and learn how deep Rob actually is. Having grown up with older brothers and a father who waste no time telling him how useless he is really helps you connect and understand rob a little more.  Morgan Tate comes to Chance Creek  when her mother died and being the unwanted illegitimate child really does a number of her self-esteem. Rob and Morgan have great chemistry and even when Morgan has to return home she can’t stop thinking about Rob.

Rob’s friends get back at him early on in a mean way (if you ask me) who get back at him for all the jokes he has played in the past and Claire being the witch she is has to put in her two cents worth.

“Rob supposed he deserved that, too. After all, he had screwed up Jamie’s proposal to Claire with a well-timed practical joke, as well.
“No – don’t get her hopes up,” Claire chimed in. “Morgan deserves a real man. One who isn’t afraid of commitment.”

She is just awful and gets on my nerves! Yes Rob played jokes in the past but the way they talk to him is just mean like he doesn’t matter and that just ain’t right in my opinion. Rob and Morgan both are looking to matter to someone, anyone at this point in their lives. After some soul-searching Rob comes up with a plan and heads to see Morgan. While shocked she is also happy that he is there and together they comes up with a sort of arranged marriage to get them both what they want. I love how they make their commitment to one another!

“Rob Matheson, I promise right now to bind my life to yours, forever and always, to love you, honor you, respect you, and build a life by your side. I make this pledge now…” She trailed off uncertainly.
Rob picked up the thread. “In the presence of God?” he said softly. He felt like God was here in this room. Nothing he’d ever done had felt this right.

“In the presence of God,” Morgan echoed. “Forever and ever, amen.” She threaded the ring onto his finger.
Rob picked up the engagement ring Rose Bellingham had helped him choose this afternoon, with many assurances he was following the right path. This darkened, quiet living room was a far cry from the bustling chrome and glass interior of the little shop in the middle of Chance Creek.

“Morgan Tate, I promise right now to bind my life to yours, forever and always, to love you, honor you, cherish you and build a life by your side. I make this pledge in the presence of God. Forever and ever, amen.”

Sweet right? Of course thinking they were going to get the land and all their dreams just like that may have been a little naïve! I did discover a new character to hate in this book. Rob’s father is a jerk and his brothers aren’t fair behind! However maybe Rob with some help from Morgan can pull off the biggest joke ever and put everyone in their places once and for all. This is one of my favorite Cowboys of Chance Creek books!
