The Cowboy’s E-mail Order Bride {Cowboys of Chance Creek 1}My Rating:

The Cowboy's E-mail Order Bride by Cora Seton
Series: The Cowboys of Chance Creek #1
Genres: Cowboys/Western Romance

Ethan Cruz should be mending fences on his Montana ranch, but instead he's driving to the Chance Creek, Montana, airport - to pick up the bride he didn't know he had. This latest salvo in his ongoing practical joke battle with his best friend, Rob Matheson, has gone too far, and Ethan plans to send his "bride" right back home, then get busy plotting his revenge. One look at Autumn Leeds changes his mind, however. Perhaps he needs a bride, after all. A breathtakingly beautiful city bride.

Autumn Leeds needs a story - fast - or she's going to lose her lucrative contract with CityPretty Magazine, so when she sees the crazy video plea for a modern mail-order bride for a cowboy, it sounds like the story of the century. Making a video of her own, she casts herself as the perfect mail-order bride for a rancher, but when she finally reaches Montana, she's surprised to find Ethan's the perfect cowboy husband-to-be. Against her better judgment, her plan to keep her handsome groom at arm's length disintegrates into a night of passion spent in his arms.

Ethan knows he can't keep playing this game - he has to come clean with Autumn and tell her the truth; about the practical joke and about the state of his ranch. He's about to lose it all because of the debts his mother racked up before his parents' deaths. Now his sister, Claire, wants to sell the ranch and collect what little money they can. He'll be out of a home and a job, and in no shape to support the bride he desperately wants to marry, after all.

Autumn's in bigger trouble than ever. Not only has she fallen in love with the subject of her expose - she might be carrying his child. If she doesn't write this article and secure her contract for another year, she'll lose everything - her career, her apartment, and more importantly, her family's approval. The only alternative is to stay and marry Ethan. But how can she trust a man she's just met when she knows too well that men always let you down?

Can a love based on lies last?

My Thoughts

The cowboy’s of Chance Creek are HOT! Actually just about all the men of Chance Creek are! I think I need to move 😉 I am a huge fan of Cora Seton so I read everything that she writes and this series is great! Ethan’s friends are hilarious! They post a video online getting him a bride as revenge for a joke he played in the past. That alone is a little creepy but funny.

“You did what?” Ethan Cruz turned his back on the slate and glass entrance to Chance Creek, Montana’s Regional Airport, and jiggled the door handle of Rob Matheson’s battered red Chevy truck. Locked. It figured – Rob had to know he’d want to turn tail and head back to town the minute he found out what his friends had done. “Open the damned door, Rob.”

“Not a chance. You’ve got to come in – we’re picking up your bride.”

They didn’t count on the bride being Autumn! She is looking for a story and has a plan to write about the guy that wanted a bride. After all cowboy’s sell! The only problem is that these two begin to fall for one another. Of course that is when all the drama begins! Ethan has an ex from Hades and a sister who is right there with her.  Ethan’s sister wants to sell right out from underneath him (she got some issues!) and all Ethan wants is to make the family ranch make money again. As if they don’t have enough issues they are working out there is a very real chance that Autumn is pregnant. Getting these two to the altar ain’t easy!

Ethan stared into the stricken eyes of the most beautiful woman he’d ever met. He had to confess to her right now the extent of the joke she’d been led into thinking was real. It’d been bad enough when he thought Rob and the rest of them had simply hauled him to the airport for a chance to laugh their asses off at him, but now there was a woman involved, a real, beautiful, fragile woman. He had to stop this before it went any further.

When she raised her clear blue gaze to his, he saw panic, horror, and an awful recognition he instantly realized meant she thought she’d been judged and found wanting. He knew he’d do anything to make that look go away. Judged wanting. As if. The girl was as beautiful as a harvest moon shining on frost-flecked fields in late November. He itched to touch her, take her hand, pull her hard against him and…

Whoa – that thought couldn’t go any farther.

I really enjoyed this story! Although I admit that I thought Rob was a bit of a jerk and I really didn’t like Ethan’s sister Claire. Ethan and Autumn are great together when they are honest and open with one another. They both have issues but when they finally work through everything it is wonderful.

About Cora Seton

Cora Seton loves cowboys, country life, gardening, bike-riding, and lazing around with a good book. Mother of four, wife to a computer programmer/eco-farmer, she ditched her California lifestyle eight years ago and moved to a remote logging town in northwestern British Columbia.

Like the characters in her novels, Cora enjoys old-fashioned pursuits and modern technology, spending mornings transforming a neglected one-acre lot into a paradise of orchards, berry bushes and market gardens, and afternoons writing the latest Chance Creek romance novel on her iPad mini.
