The Marine's E-mail Order Bride by Cora Seton
Series: Heroes of Chance Creek #3
Genres: Military Romance
If Gunnery Sergeant Zane Hall wants to save his family’s ranch, he’ll need to fix up the buildings, stock the spread with cattle—and find a wife. The first two are easy with the help of his brothers, but getting hitched is proving more difficult. When he meets mountaineer Kenna North through an online ad, she seems like the perfect fit—at least in her e-mails. She wants the same thing he does: a temporary marriage to secure an inheritance. But when Zane meets Kenna, she’s nothing like he expects, and Zane finds himself changing his priorities, fast.
If Storm Willow wants to save her family’s seaside cottage, she’ll have to keep her boss happy—which means taking Kenna’s place and marrying Zane when Kenna is detained out of the country. As long as Storm acts her part, no one will know that she’s an imposter. But when she falls for the handsome Marine, Storm begins to wonder if holding onto the cottage is worth giving up on love.
Can a fake marriage lead to real happiness? Or is disaster just a heartbeat away?
Zane has a plan and he thinks it’s a solid one! He decides that he will scam Aunt Heloise right back! It’s not like he doesn’t want to get married but he just doesn’t have the time to find love. So he decides that he will marry a temporary bride, stay married until the year is up (in Zane’s case 6 months), get the ranch put in their names and then get divorced. Sounds like a great plan right up until he meets his temporary bride and discovers he might just want more.
Storm Willow has not had it easy by any means. She has spent most f her life keeping her mother and sisters up which is not easily done. When she was 12 her father died and by 15 she had quit school to work full time. At 23 she’s the assistant to a mountain climber, Kenna (who is Zane’s bride), and is in Chance Creek to deliver the wedding dress. However Kenna decides that she has other things to do and Storm should take her place which Storm doesn’t want to but an offer of a 30,000 bonus as well as pressure from her mother puts her on the spot. Yet when she lays eyes on Zane Hall she knows she is in trouble.
The first time their hands brushed as they walked, she felt a little thrill. The second time she wondered if that touch was deliberate. She slid a glance under her lashes at the man beside her only to find him looking back at her. That heart-stopping smile curved his mouth once more and her breath caught in her throat. Was he flirting with her? Their fingertips touched again and just for a second—a space of time so short she thought she must have imagined it—his fingers tangled with hers and gave her a little tug. She bit her lip as a jolt of desire ripped through her.
I love these two together! They fall for one another pretty much from the moment they lay eyes on one another. But leave it to Heloise to throw a monkey wrench into things when she discovers that Storm isn’t Kenna. The arrival of Storm’s family complicates things further. Storm’s mother and sisters are horrible though and I was thrilled when Zane finally puts them in their place. Yet when all is said and done Zane realizes what he feels for Storm is the real deal. This was a great read and although there were times that it was emotional Zane is the more laid back brother which is nice after two very serious brothers.
